Is anyone using Virtualmin and Dovecot? If so, how? I have roughly 3000+ mailboxes I need to move off our other mail system (windows based IMail). We host nearly 80 domains and anywhere from 2 to 150 users each domain, plus our dialup/wireless customers. I can't figure out how to make dovecot translate a login such as "us...@do..." to the unix user of user-domain or user-domain.com or anything of the like. Anyone else have this working? Am I even posting this to the right place? -Adam "Fuzzy" Kennedy |

Hi, I am using virtualmin with Dovecot. What do you mean that how to use Dovecot with Virtualmin ?! Normally it is working cause the Virtualmin users are always normal unix users and as Dovecot point of view there is no diffrence between Virtualmin users and normal Unix users. Therefor if you install the Dovecot on your unix machine it can deal with the user's mailbox ( or maildir depend on your MTA configuration ) like any other users. As an example if you have a domain like example.com in your virtualmin then the Mailboxes under this domain will have a unix user like this : in...@ex... ---> info.example ( This style can change in virtualmin it self ) so when you want to connect to the pop3 or imap server your username will be info.example with the password and you will be able to check your email from Dovecot or any other standard POP3 servers. With 3000+ users already using use...@do... as their login (instead of username.domain) we would rather try and keep it like that. Is there any way to have dovecot do some kind of re-write on the username the user enters when doing IMAP? Kind of like a Postfix virtual user map? Hi Roger, Are you thinking of support in Virtualmin for Postfix mailboxes stored in a MySQL database, sort of like how it supports LDAP and vpopmail users? I'm not familiar with Postfix-MySQL integration, but I suppose it would be possible.. - Jamie |

Since we're already running that way using Postfix Admin, I'll gladly forward you the MySQL schemas and Postfix main.cf entries. |

Thanks for all the info.. It would certainly be possible to support Postfix+MySQL in Virtualmin, but it will take a while before it gets done, as it looks fairly complex! - Jamie |

I (selfishly and otherwise) think compatibility is a good idea... let me know if there's anything I can help with. It would be great not to have to send our domain owners to one interface for mail and another for web stuff. (Since it's such a minority entertainment, note I'm not pushing the Majordomo 2 front...!) |
