Hi there,
First of all, i would like to congratulate the developers of this great
piece of software, Webmin. Unix Systems missed something like this.
Second, and the reason i made myself member of this mailling list, is about
BIND 8 and 9 Module.
I'm the DNS Administrator for the company i work for, and we use Webmin to
manage our Linux Systems.
Some Linux Boxes are our DNS Servers, using Bind 8 and 9 versions.
But we recently faced a little problem, regarding using the Bind 8 Module
when we activated Dynamic Updates.
It's well known that Dynamic Updates is incompatible with Manual editing the
zone files. So we faced this problem:
1) don't use the Webmin to manage the Bind service and use Dynamic Zones
2) or, don't use Dynamic Zones and use Webmin.
But the real problems is, our network has Windows 2000 Servers with Active
Directory requesting Dynamic Updates on DNS Servers (Argh!!!).
So i started to find some way around to give me the chance to use Webmin
and Dynamic Updates....and i found it! :-)
Now that's the other problem :-/
I used to be a programmer, but i'm no longer one has i used to be or liked
to be. I can understand almost any programming language, and i can make
little hacks, has long has no deep knowledge of that language isn't needed.
So here's the fact i'm writing to this mailing list. Theoricaly, i know how
to modify the Bind 8 Module of Webmin to work with Dynamic Update Zones, but
i don't have enought knowledge of Perl language to make the necessary
changes of the Module....ok i lie, i could make it, i think, but i would
have to learn Perl from the bottom up and then get started, reading manuals,
writing sample scripts,etc...but don't have time. :-(
So i'm here requesting for help of the "Webmin - Bind 8 Module" author. If
you, or someone else, are able to "work" in Bind 8 Module to the point of
making the necessary changes to the module for next generations of ISC Bind
service using Dynamic Updates, i can give you all the information you need
to make it happen.
It's quite simple indeed...
