I've got a situation where the files being written by the majordomo module are coming out wrong. Apparently the files need to NOT be group writable. The default perms being given to the files in /usr/local/majordomo-xxx/lists have group writability by default if created via webmin. Can this be adjusted? I'm not in a position to where I can spend a lot of time on this right now, but it's going to be a major problem later on....I'm sure more than just I have problems with it. I had the lastest version available as of Feb 1, but haven't upgraded since. Tony Shadwick Manager of Internet Services Strategic Technology Group |

strange thing.... when I have a "drop down selector" (like in the edit alias for sendmail), the selector will cover the items in the dropdown menu for the wembin theme... (in my case, the majordomo list manager, mysql database server and the next one get "covered" with the selectors.. --ie you can see "Email address" (from alias to) and None.. and I could select others) I'm trying the theme in a modified RH 7.2 (with freeVsd/OpenVDS), webmin 1.070, and in the client side I'm in my wife's windows 98 second edition with IE 5.50.4807.2300 (will see when I can check it with netscape in the same client... and in my machine I use a simple linux with no gui.. then I change the theme in webmin... if found the MSC theme impossible to use under lynx) Cheers! Marcos ps: as long as we have that dropdown menu... perhaps would be interesting to investigate the posibility of having submenus... in other words... instead of "jumping" to servers/sendmail... be able to jump to servers/sendamil/aliases ;) On Sun, 23 Mar 2003, Jamie Cameron wrote: > Hi all, > > John Smith of MSC software has updating the current default Webmin > theme to make use of drop-down category menus for jumping directly > from one module to another without having to return to the main menu. > I plan to make this the default theme in the next release, but since > this is new design makes use of some advanced browser features I > though that list members may want to try it out first to comment on > it. Hi All some users told me, that they have problems by installing some of my modules like "http://www.gehrigal.net/download/webmin_usermonitor/webmin-module_usermonit or_0.1a-pre6.wbm". So i have have tried this too and got the same failure message: This does not look like a tar archive tar: Skipping to next header tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors But when i download it by mozilla and install it by hand it works with out problem. Any ideas? bye Alexander |

Hi all, John Smith of MSC software has updating the current default Webmin theme to make use of drop-down category menus for jumping directly from one module to another without having to return to the main menu. I plan to make this the default theme in the next release, but since this is new design makes use of some advanced browser features I though that list members may want to try it out first to comment on it. The new theme can be downloaded from : http://www.webmin.com/download/modules/msctheme-enhanced.wbt.gz As always, any feedback or bug reports are welcome. - Jamie |

The usermin file manager is identical to the webmin file manager, and so it's source can be found in the file/ subdirectory of webmin if you want it. The source for the SSH/Telnet module is not include though, as the applet that it uses was written by other people .. However, it may be on their website (liked to below the telnet window). - Jamie |

Hi, I'm running Debian on a couple of server where I also use webmin/usermin. I would like to switch to using webmin/usermin .debs from Debian so that I can test the packages in a production environment. However, I need the file manager module for usermin, which is not currently available in unstable. I talked to the maintainer Jaldhar H, Vyas about this module, who explained that he had to remove it because the source is not available. =20 So, is the Java source for the file manager (and ssh?) available from somewhere? Thanks, Chris |

Dear all, Attached is a patch for webmin to recognize ThizLinux, an RPM-based GNU/Linux distribution based in Hong Kong. :-) Another patch (sent separately as it is over 100 KB) is an update of zh_CN translation, courtesy of ThizLinux Laboratory Ltd. and professional translator Stephanie Li. I can see why a problem would happen - the .cgi file will try to 'require' the .pl file, expecting it to be normal Perl source. However if it is actually a compiled binary, the require will of course fail! You should only compile the .cgi files which are run directly, instead of any .pl files that get called indirectly from a .cgi program. - Jamie |

You should have a: ProxyPassReverse /webmin/ https://localhost:10000/ as well. It works for me if I don't use the alias webmin but redirect everything to 10000 on the localhost. Hi Folks, I have a problem regarding Webmin modules that has been compiled using perlcc. I have written a module that consists of about 15 .cgi and 4 .pl (lib) files. If I compile the .cgi files and try to use them via Webmin, they work perfectly. However, if I compile the .pl files they fail. Typical error: Missing Content-Type Header : Unrecognized character \x7F at ./library.pl line 1. Compilation failed in require at index.cgi line 6. Has anyone else encountered this problem ?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul. |

Has anybody tried using webmin via proxypass module of apache. The advantage should be to leave only one port open to the world (I did this for ntop, and it almost works...;-). Whis are the possible disadventages? (eg.: no control over IP) I thought to do something like: ProxyPass /webmin/ https://localhost:10000/ RewriteEngine On RewriteLog "/tmp/webmin.log" RewriteLogLevel 9 RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} localhost/webmin RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/webmin RewriteRule "^/(.*)$" https://localhost/webmin/$1 [L,P] (this should only work from localhost, thought...). I get the message: You don't have permission to access /webmin/ on this server. Thanks in advance sandro *:-) I attach my webmin.conf: root=/usr/share/webmin mimetypes=/etc/mime.types port=10000 host=bluff.diade.it addtype_cgi=internal/cgi realm=Webmin Server logfile=/var/log/webmin/miniserv.log pidfile=/var/run/webmin.pid logtime=168 ssl=1 env_WEBMIN_CONFIG=/etc/webmin env_WEBMIN_VAR=/var/log/webmin logout=/etc/webmin/logout-flag listen=10000 userfile=/etc/webmin/miniserv.users keyfile=/etc/webmin/miniserv.pem loghost= log=1 logclear= blockhost_time= no_pam=0 session=1 logouttime= passdelay=0 syslog= blockhost_failures= preroot=theme_gehrigal -- Sandro Dentella *:-) e-mail: san...@ti... http://www.tksql.org TkSQL Home page - My GPL work |

It would be nice and futureproof, but would be a somewhat intense project. :) I'll tidy-up the xhtml conversions I've done so far (web-lib and index) and post them through. My interest in Webmin is in creating an admin tool for some of my clients. As I said earlier, I've got a treasurechest of xsl, css and javascript files that create a really nice GUI - and I'd like to get Webmin to work with them. So if the Webmin source outputted valid xhtml - the number of diffs I'd have to maintain to get webmin to work with my libraries would be greatly reduced. Regards, Ben |

If the changes don't break anything, I'd be happy to include them in the main webmin distribution if you send me diff files.. An XHTML conversion would be better than changing all the CGIs to output XML, as it would be far less drastic. Further to my earlier post - here's some regexps I've been using to make Webmin valid xhtml. I'm running these regexps on the source code without many breakages (only 3 or 4 per file). I'm not sure on the history of this - but I think making Webmin output valid xhtml would be a good thing. :) * attributes are enclosed in quotes * all tags are closed (eg br/ hr/ img/) Because, once webmin outputs valid xhtml, the entire thing can be parsed as an xml document, and it's easy to output xml intermixed with the xhtml. You can write an xsl that will ignore all the tr, td, hr and table tags, and just look for tags which are outputted when $config{'xml'} is true. I'll post a screenshot of why I'm so keen on webmin->xml (hopefully) later today. Regards, Ben Regular expression to fix 'wrong' attributes - misses some body tags: s # (href|cellpadding|cellspacing|width|colspan|height|border|alt|align|vali gn|alt)=([^ ,>\\]+) # \1=\"\2\" # Regular expression to fix unclosed tags - misses imgs s # <((hr|br)[^>/]*)> # <\1/> # |

Hi. I've just played around with webmin in the last hour or so, changing web-lib and index.cgi, to make webmin output valid xhtml... It seems that it'd be pretty easy to change some of the modules to output xml, and then run an xsl stylesheet over the top to convert the xml/xsl to html. (My website is an example of this: http://www.ripcord.co.nz/). Before I jump in over my head and start cutting and chopping - could I convert some modules to output sensible xml without forking the code? If I do my own little fork - What version should I fork? Can I convince you all to convert the entire codebase to outputting xml with serverside xslt processing? ;) WRT/ XSLT: XSL has advantages over other templating engines: [a] It is a w3c recommendation, uses lots of open standards. [b] On mozilla 1.2 / ie6 you can send xml and xsl to the browser separately and the browser will apply the stylesheet. And for me personally: [a] I've got some nice xsl stylesheets sitting here, to create collapsible trees, do xml-rpc via js, browser-side sortable tables, etc. Regards, Ben |
