That will be just great! in the mean time I managed to recomple new kernel with smbmnt support . what I've learned form fedora-devel list about cifs support in their Kernel is that they are testing cifs and if all works fine smbmnt support will be off by default in Fedora core 2 release due in May. On the other hand there seems to be only two people really interested in cifs/smbmnt situation one being me :-) anyway if you are interested you can always look through fedora-devel mailing list.
