This issue may be that Webmin wasn't restarted properly - you will need to SSH in and run /etc/webmin/restart

I have not changed anything on either server (other than upgrading to 1.997).  

I can't really see any issues in the log files on the slave server either. 

There are two other slaves as well, both running 1.994, and there are no issues reported from them upon applying changes on the master server.
