RPC vs FastRPC?

I've written a module mainly intended for remote operation,
and it works just fine with Fast RPC turned off, but
remote_foreign_require() returns a "false" value when I try to use
it with Fast RPC turn on.  What's the difference?  There isn't any
help on the server config page, nor could I find anything in the FAQ.
