Thanks for your quick response on this.  If you want, I can wait before 
reinstalling on my desktop system so I can test what you are adding.

As for the other distributions, no other distributions that I know are 
configured this way, but I must admit I've not tested many distros... 
Maybe someone else can jump in and add his comments on this one ;)
