AFAIK there is only the version from the default Redhat 9 instillation. =
I have not installed another version of Perl myself. It does not look =
like there is another version, but how can I test this properly ?

  The fact the the Perl module Authen::PAM is still not being seen and =
producing an error in /var/webmin/miniserv.error when doing a service =
restart on Webmin seems to be the crux of the problem.

  Installing the Perl module does not help though. I am confused.

    That is really odd ..
    Does the /etc/syslog.conf file on yoru system contain a line like :

    authpriv.*;auth.*                                       =
/var/log/secure

    to log messages to /var/log/secure?

        How about your /var/log/secure file, or /var/log/messages .. =
does anything appear in there?

            So looks like the Redhat 9 install missed the Authen::PAM =
Perl module ?

Redhat 9 again from scratch, but would rather not do that.

              Check to see what gets logged to /var/log/authlog and =
/var/webmin/miniserv.error when you try to logon. The reasons for any =
failures
              should be recorded there ..
