From: Prodos (Melbourne, Australia) To: Roger B.A. Klorese Dear Roger, Good morning! Me: > > I tried using the "Delete Selected Servers" button. > > It seemed to delete them. But then when I again > > clicked "Broadcast for servers" they all came up again: > > > > gamelinkage.com:10000 (edit) > > districthost.com:10000 (edit) > > deranet.com:47482 (edit) > > server4.vectrahost.net:10000 (edit) > > districthost.com:10000 (edit) > > Roger: > "Broadcast for servers" means "locate other servers." > > Deleting the ones that are found takes them out of the current list. It > does not tel lthe software to ignore them if they're found on a future > broadcast. > > Clicking "broadcast for servers again" says to find the servers again -- > so you find them. It's doing what you asked it to. > I read @ http://www.swelltech.com/support/webminguide/ch03.html "Clicking Broadcast for servers will cause Webmin to send out a broadcast request to port 10000 over YOUR LOCAL NETWORK. Every Webmin server on YOUR NETWORK will reply and identify itself." [My CAPS for emphasis] But I don't run any "local network". It's just me, my computer, and my lil' ol' server. That's what I don't understand: Where these other servers are coming from. Are they somehow "sharing" my system? Are they the result of someone hacking my server and free-loading? Me: > > Question: Is there no way to remove/delete these pests? > > A button I can click? A missile I can launch?!! Roger: > Um, if there are no other servers you can legitimately manage, WHY ARE > YOU BROADCASTING OR SCANNING FOR THEM?! I thought this function identified servers which are somehow ALREADY within my system or part of my system. Wrong? Do you know where these servers are coming from? Is there anything I can read that explains more about this function? Thanks for any further clarification or advice on this matter. Happy New Year! Wishing all fellow WEBMIN users a terrific 2006!
