Are you using any hostnames instead in your firewall rules instead of IP addresses? Using a hostname may slow down the process of loading the firewall while it is looked up.. In fact, this may fail completely if the DNS server cannot be contacted, perhaps due to another firewall rule. - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: "SafelistSmart Support" <saf...@co...> Subj: [webmin-l] Linux Firewall not restarting at boot Date: Wed 19 Oct 2005 2:04 am Size: 1K To: <web...@li...> Since upgrading to Webmin 1.230, upon rebooting the server Linux Firewall is either not starting or is starting but not fully activating the last set of saved rules. When I look at iptables in Bootup/Shutdown after a reboot I see "status unknown". When viewing status after activating my rules from within the Linux Firewall module the bootup/shutdown edit page for iptables times out. This leads me to believe that I am not getting a full restart of iptables upon reboot. (NOTE: The time outs of the boot/shutdown edit page is not an issue here. It likely occurs because of the large number of rules I keep active - and indicates to me that all is running correctly). This problem at reboot seems to be the same whether I have Linux Firewall configured for editing of the save file or to edit the iptables file directly, or if I simply edit the iptables files by hand. Any suggestions? I am on Redhat Linux 7.3.
