Hallelujah! That did it. Totally painless (would be nice if you could get the webmin Backup Configuration Files option to back up VirtualMin as well. Folks - Webmin saved my butt. Had all my important configuration files backed up to my local PC and on another hard drive on the machine. Was able to recover vastly easier, without stressing about extracting stuff from a dying hard drive. Using Webmin's recovery features for Webmin itself was painless.
