I'm running virtualmin behind a router, and virtualmin is using the private ip address for the DNS server, which is not accessible from the internet. is it possible to use the external (public) ip address instead of the private address? I also have a dynamic IP, so that also needs to be updated in the DNS server.

      Hello Zach :-)
first of all you cannot do this from the information supplied because you only have one Public IP which the router is taking - not relative to Dynamic or Static.

From the best of my knowledge to make the server have a public IP is you would need to have two Static IP's being piped to you and one assigned to the router and the second routed to the box via the router.

Though the router can handle having Dynamic and tell a service to route to you even when the IP changes automatically - this cannot be done for the Box behind the router - therefore the need for two static IP's

      Joe :-)
