That error indicates that you have mysql packages from more than one source in yum, and they are conflicting .

Do you have some additional repository with jason in the name enabled?

Yes, that utterramblings.repo is likely the cause. You should edit that file and change the `enabled=1` line to `enabled=0`

After I change `enabled=1` to `enabled=0` in utterramblings.repo, utterramblings.repo.save , Virtualmin in System Information still showed me Package updates:

mysql MySQL client programs and shared libraries New version 5.1.52-jason.1 utterramblings
mysql-server The MySQL server and related files New version 5.1.52-jason.1 utterramblings

On updating it showed "No packages were installed.":

When I trued "Refresh system information", it did not show me no more able update for mysql and mysql-server. In http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/ the latest stable mysql server version is 5.5.15. Do you have update for it?

You may need to click the "Refresh Available Packages" button at the bottom of the page to clear Webmin's cache of updates..

Are you sure that a mysql 5.5.15 package exists in any of your repositories?

You could try a manual update from the command line, with the command :

yum install mysql mysql-devel mysql-server

When repository utterramblings.repo and utterramblings.repo.save where enabled, it showed me able mysql mysql-devel mysql-server update, and on update, update becomes failed, because of conflicts between files. After I disable utterramblings.repo and utterramblings.repo.save, I do not receive no mysql mysql-devel mysql-server update:

That is expected, because the newer mysql packages (which would cause conflicts if installed) are coming from the utterramblings repo.

Virtualmin doesn't actually supply a MySQL package at all - we just use the package provided by CentOS, for which 5.0.77 is the latest version.

Those repos cause problems because they include a MySQL package for a newer version, but it is not packaged in a way that is compatible with the CentOS packages..

Why do you need to upgrade exactly?

In that case, you'd need to backup all your databases, un-install mysql, install the newest version from that utterramblings repo, then restore your databases. I doubt if this is worth the effort though..
