when setting up a status monitor for mysql the monitor seems to try to connect to mysql as root@localhost with no password. this results in a access denied from mysql, and after a certain number of "access denied" mysql blocks any access for root (regardless of where root comes from, not just root@localhost). this is intented behavior of mysql as with a default installation at RedHat 5.1 running mysql 5.0.22 (as far as i can figure out)

Make sure you have Webmin's MySQL Database module setup with the correct login for MySQL. The status module uses that same login, and so will almost certainly fail if it is not set.
