#2992 Trouble installing on Windows XP + packages in ubuntu gutsy
Good afternoon,
Alright, I've been banging my head against my screen for most of the day now I'm quite sure that that red stuff isn't ketchup by now.
I have a test server that I need to install webmin on in order to assimilate web stats from an outside source for a friend of mine as they cannot do this on their own web server properly.
Currently my only functioning web server is a WAMP install that also supports JRun, MSSQL, and Coldfusion development server, I personally believe I've been lucky to be able to pull this all together so far with minimal hiccups until now.
So on my WAMPJSC server I am trying to get webmin to work, I have followed the instructions to the letter on the main page and I have installed webmin before on a different windows platform using the 1.29 release (sadly I did not have the foresight to save it.)
After repeated failures I noticed subtly tucked away there was a built installer for windows, cursing my blindness I tried installing it and everything went swimmingly until I got to the point where I had to boot up the server. Wherein it would not show me my webmin interface, the url was https://localhost:10000 to me there seems to be nothing wrong whatsoever, but none of my browsers can find the blighter (FF, IE7, Safari, Opera.)
So in all that hubbub I decided it was time to try my friendly Ubuntu machine standing next to me and with a moderate degree of success. It manages to install, however when I attempt to install the stats package that they want to use, it hangs the webmin install AND locks the download directory so that nothing else can install.
As I said, I've got a headache and my vision's going red here, can someone please shed some light on this disaster of a day before I throw both of my machines into a smelter.

So for the first problem, perhaps Webmin isn't being automatically started at boot time? I haven't used the Windows installer much myself (it was created by someone else), but you may be able to go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and check if there is one matching 'Webmin' that you have to enable.
For the second problem, where did this stats package come from? That seems to be the cause of the problem ..

Hello again,
Webmin is in the services field, however it did not auto-start when I rebooted after install, but I was able to force start the service, however it still did not correct the problem it still cannot connect to the server in https://localhost:10000 however it can connect to the root of the apache webserver with just http://localhost so I know the server is still operational.
As for the stats package, it is AWstats, also I tried Webalizer to see if it would install correctly, it seems to hang on cleanup of the download directory rather than installing though, it never completes the installation and locks down the drive but if I reset my machine it's installed.

A little bit of version background,
First I installed the WAMP components
Windows XP SP2
Apache 2.0.59
MySQL 5.0.37
PHP 5.2.2
Then we have the other components installed afterwards
MSSQL 2005
JRun 4.0
ColdFusion 8
Then we add ActivePerl for install only of the webmin interface but not directly attached to the webserver.
ActivePerl 5.6
That's it...

Terribly sorry to double post, however I am curious as to if you are still attempting to help with my problem, if not then I will just shelf it along with the other oddities that just don't work.

Sorry, but I just couldn't re-produce this on any of my systems .. I guess it is just one of those oddities.
As I remember it, Webmin stopped being able to install things. Just type it in yourself. apt-get install <package> -y
