If mail address contains a dot before @
webmin adds quotes around this email address
but bind doesn't accept this !
example :
$ttl 24H
test. IN SOA f7.test. "francois\.malard.ac-reims.fr." (
2007120601
6H
1H
7D
24H )
test. IN NS f7.test.
----------------------
rndc reload says :
zone test/IN: loading from master file /var/named/test.hosts failed: unexpected token
_default/test/IN: unexpected token
[FAIL]
The bug is old and still exists in webmin-1.380-1

Sorry, but on my systems (even running a really old BIND), an SOA record like that works fine.
Which BIND version do you have there?

I don't think this is really a bug, as all the versions of BIND that I have seen *require* the quotes when the email address has a . before the @ that has to be escaped with a \
