(SuSE 8.0, intel P4, 2.8Ghz, 1Gb RAM)

After I upgraded to 1.170 via normal webmin's built-in
facility, the File Manager doesn't work.

Before 1.170 work fine.
I tested it in different navigators (always InetExplorer
but with different versions) and doesn't work.

When you select the FileManager icon, the screen
remain gray with nothing (buttons, etc) in the screen.

I'm the one person that this behavior occurs?

Thanks.

...at the bottom bar appears the text 'load: class FileManager
    not found'.

I'm trying also to uninstall the file module and reinstall and
    don't work.

Is this a known issue? In this case, can you show me a link to
    get information about? I find for faq's and doc's and I don't
see anything. I can't still use the FileManager module. I don't
know if I must recompile or what to do.

It looks like Java on your system doesn't support .jar files
    ...
Perhaps you should upgrade Java, if possible?

My PC is P4,FC1 OS,256 RAM and the webmin version is 1.170.
I got the same problem...File Manager does not show any thing.

It actually happen because my browser(Epiphany 1.0.4) does
not has the plug-in called something like java-vm (showing
by the browser (application/x-java-vm) ). I think if the
proper plug-in would use, the file manager will work properly.

If anyone got that plug-in plz submit here.
    Thanks for your attention.. :-)

I have just upgraded to 1.170 today and suffer the same
problem. i.e. File Manager does not work.

The status bar at the bottom of IE 6 (on XP Pro) briefly
    displays:
    "load: class FileManager not found"

Hope this provides a clue to the problem.

I suspect that this happens if Java in your browser cannot
load .jar files. In Webmin 1.170, all the .class files used by the
File Manager were moved into a .jar file. I have attached to
this bug report and update that extracts the .class files when
needed, assuming the unzip command is installed on the
    system running Webmin.

Alternately, you can download the fixed module from :
    http://www.webmin.com/updates/file-1.170-6.wbm.gz

    Hi Jamie,

I still can't get File Manager to work.

(I am using Webmin within IE6 on Win XP Pro to access a
server running Red Hat Linux 3.0ES)

I tried upgrading File Manager by entering the url (
    http://www.webmin.com/updates/file-1.170-6.wbm.gz.\) into
the "Update modules now" text box in the "Upgrade Webmin"
section of the Webmin edit_upgrade.cgi page but all I get
is "No Webmin updates for this version".

    Whatam I doing wrong?

    Best Regards,
    John

You need to go to the Webmin Configuration module, click on
Webmin Modules and use the first form to install from the URL :
    http://www.webmin.com/updates/file-1.170-6.wbm.gz

    Hi Jamie,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
However, although the module is (apparently) successfully
installed (see message below), the problem remains with
exactly the same symptoms (grey background and the status
bar at the bottom of IE 6 briefly displays:
    "load: class FileManager not found").

    Module upgrade message:
"The following modules have been successfully installed and
added to your access control list :
File Manager in /usr/libexec/webmin/file (1104 kB) under
    category Others"

    Any other suggestions?
    Best regards,
    John

Does it create various *.class files in the
/usr/libexec/webmin/file directory when you open the file
    manager?

    Hi Jamie,
The .jar file and the various .class files did exist but there is
both good news and bad news.
The good news is that I resolved the problem by (I believe)
reducing the Intranet security level in MS IE6 from "medium-
low" to "low". It all works now.
The bad news is that I am unable to recreate the problem by
raising the security level to "high" or even when accessing it
from other PC's! I am completely mystified as to the cause.
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    John Randall

    Hi,

Have the same problem using firefox with SUN j2re. Just
    can't get it to work.
Using Microsoft IE with SUN j2re gives the same (non
working) result. They both complain about the filemanager
    class not loaded.

Disabling SUN j2re (via it's console) for IE (makes IE use
it's own java VM) make IE work without any problem.

Looks like this filemanager just doesn't want to work with
    the SUN j2re.

Using the lates 1.4.2_06 SUN j2re.

Try installing the updated File Manager module attached to
this bug report. This can be done in the Webmin
Configuration module in the Modules section.

When i look at the whole debug message in the java-error i
    get i see another thing.
It looks like it's reporting a reason why it can't find the
    class:

Caused by: java.io.IOException : open HTTP connection failed

Would this be an error on the client system not being able
to get out or on the server not allowing the connection in?
