#1556 Samba Module not detecting running samba

The samba module displays "Start Samba Servers"
command button even though Samba is fully
functioning. I am running Slackware 9.1 and samba
3.02a. The same thing occurred when I was running
Samba 2.28a. I don't know if it is related but the
System and Server Status module shows the samba
server as being down when in fact it is functioning
properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have Samba running from inetd or xinetd, or as
    stand-alone smbd and nmbd processes?
Webmin looks for either an appropriate inetd entry, or a
running process called smbd or nmbd to determine if the
Start button should appear or not.

I am running samba as a stand-alone daemon.
    ps -aux shows /usr/sbin/smbd -D and /usr/sbin/nmbd -D
running. Samba has full functionality. Webmin does show the
Start Button but does not show the Stop and Restart buttons
that i have seen when installing webmin on redhat or debian.
i would assume it is webmin not detecting the running
processes for samba. are there any config files that i need to
change? i have checked the paths in the module config and
    all seems fine there.

    Thanks in advance
