Were the original 'slave' webmin servers installed to a specific directory like
/usr/local/webmin, or just run out of the default webmin-1.110 directory
    extracted from the tar.gz file?

You can recover from this by just upgrading to 1.120 manually on the
effected hosts, as all of the configurations will be left un-touched ..

All the "slave" servers are installed from tar.gz files
    but all into /opt
Yes , i could recover all of them, the /etc/webmin was not lost
but i was a lot of work to do ;-)
