I already setup phpMyAdmin on Sourceforge so that should be easy enough. CPanel would also be good for us command line shellnoids though. Probably as easy as phpMyAdmin to install. FTP would be important. Hi Jesse, 1) I'm waiting for Phil to actually confirm it's a good idea to go with a different host than Sourceforge. I expect it will be but I still have not actually got that confirmation. 2) When Dick heard we may be looking he set it up right away which was kind of premature or very efficient depending on how you look at it ;) 3) Since Dick had it setup already it was not much trouble to move everything there and try it. There is a drawback in that we don't have shell access but I believe we have everything needed through the control panel and that it's actually more effective. I've explained to Phil but have not heard from him about it yet. 4) Once we hear he too wants to switch hosts then it will come down to whether Dick's hosting with the CPanel only will be good for all. Also some other issues such as speed although I've found Dick's hosting to be good for speed. When I hear back from Phil, we will be in a position to know whether another hosting situation is need/wanted or whether we are all set. If we are set with Dick's then we will change the registry to point to Dick's host and be done. If not then we'll need to explore other options. If it happened that yours was easily readied in the meantime I would have loaded the webERP website and demo on yours as well and tried it out. It turns out you are planning to build a stand-alone server so I would put that on hold as there's a good chance Dick's hosting will do without you going through all that work. You decide is still the answer ... the only point only partly worthy of note is that our statistics based on web site accesses probably depend on us hosting on sourceforge. We would slip down the rankings probably - doesn't bother me but may reduce our credibility? I don't think that is the case, if you copy the code for the sf.net image onto the new site then you will still get the ranking hits. it is outlined at: https://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=790&group_id=1 Also, if the new demo allows it we could set up something like demo.web-erp.org Just a thought Jake Phil Daintree wrote: > You decide is still the answer ... the only point only partly worthy of note > is that our statistics based on web site accesses probably depend on us > hosting on sourceforge. Thanks for confirming, Jake. I was under that impression but I only read once a while back and wasn't sure. The sf logo is still in the same place that it was planned to be with the new site so we should still get the same stats. They say it is based on people clicking the pic link they supply that has the necessary code to increment our count with them. If the stats start going down in Sourceforge then we will do what we can to bring them up ;) Hey, that would be a good idea about demo.weberp.org. It would need to point to www.weberp.org/weberp once we change the registry. Dick, can you send Phil and I the domain server entries for the registry? Steve, this message seemed to say to me that Phil was fine with a move: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=3D5730357&forum_id= =3D34088 He may even be of the same mind I am - as long as it's working, I could = care less where it actually is. I've not done anything yet (except forget about it for 3 days :) ). I expect it will be but I still have = not actually got that confirmation. 2) When Dick heard we may be looking he set it up right away which was = kind of premature or very efficient depending on how you look at it ;) 3) Since Dick had it setup already it was not much trouble to move everything there and try it. Also = some other issues such as speed although I've found Dick's hosting to be good = for speed. When I hear back from Phil, we will be in a position to know whether = another hosting situation is need/wanted or whether we are all set. If we are = set with Dick's then we will change the registry to point to Dick's host and = be done. If not then we'll need to explore other options. If it happened = that yours was easily readied in the meantime I would have loaded the webERP website and demo on yours as well and tried it out. It turns out you = are planning to build a stand-alone server so I would put that on hold as there's a good chance Dick's hosting will do without you going through = all that work. Sounds good, Jesse. That message actually kind of slipped my mind or at least I wasn't positive what it meant. I would like Phil to take a look at my last message to him about Dick's hosting, no shell but good CPanel before making a final decision. I think we all agree that we want a website and demo that works right and loads in a proper amount of time. This isn't the case with Sourceforge...at least not for the past few months. So, I guess we will be moving them but I'd still like to get a final ok from Phil as to where... Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jesse Peterson" <je...@st...> To: <web...@li...> Sent: Monday, October 11, 2004 4:52 PM Subject: RE: [Web-erp-developers] Re: testerp.zion-it.com Steve, this message seemed to say to me that Phil was fine with a move: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=5730357&forum_id=34088 He may even be of the same mind I am - as long as it's working, I could care less where it actually is. I've not done anything yet (except forget about it for 3 days :) ). Just let me know if I need to look into this... jesse -----Original Message----- From: skaill [mailto:sk...@ro...] Sent: Monday, October 11, 2004 16:38 To: web...@li... Subject: Re: [Web-erp-developers] Re: testerp.zion-it.com Hi Jesse, 1) I'm waiting for Phil to actually confirm it's a good idea to go with a different host than Sourceforge. Steve, I am so happy to have to have you helping with all this stuff and really whatever you decide is good with me. Clearly you are way more experienced a marketeer than I. With respect to web site/hosting demo you call the shots. Thanks so much for all your effort in bringing webERP onto a more professional footing. Hi Jesse, It's great if you could secure weberp.org. We're trying to avoid the web-erp thing if possible. It must be registered to Phil somehow though. I mean he needs to be the main contact and have access to switching the domain info. He should be the owner. Is that possible? We need a domain name so we can eventually put it on the search engines. We don't want to do that yet though. Not until the webERP site is revamped and everything is in place. It furthers all of our causes to have a greater visibility ;) It's a generous offer for web space, however it looks like SourceForge gives the capabilities to install software, etc. and with a generous amount of space. If SourceForge does not work out then we may shift to another solution. Really, I could care less if it had it's own domain name, though. web-erp.org , weberp.org , and web-erp.biz appear to be the best suitated names that are still available. I can probably also offer server space - possibly dedicated - on a really good internet connection (ds3 w/ 9megs lit up) in the US...I will verify if it's wanted. jesse -----Original Message----- From: Daintrees [mailto:p.d...@pa...] Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2004 4:18 PM To: web...@li... You are completly fluent in English - I have only met a few Dutch people and all of them have had perfect English! Steve has agreed to maintain the web stuff so I'm passing the buck over to him on this. I haven't needed the test account - I think my own server is accessible on the internet too - although I may have blocked port 80 at the moment. Steve is talking about having a webERP domain name although this sounds as though it may cost which puts me off somewhat! Phil Phil, I still have the test account I setup a while ago. I added the fantastico script installer fantastico which you can use to setup and evaluate the blogs, cms. I think it will not cost much time to maintain a blog. Adding once a week a message will be enough. A cms will take probably more time than we like to spend. We can use it for collecting technical and functional notes which should be in the user and developer documentation. Jesse, I have committed a whole lot of this but am still concerned about bugs creeping in. I hate testing but there is no alternative really to keep the quality up. Sorry its taken me so long to figure it out - it took me quite a while to go through it all so goodness knows how long this took you to do. I can see that there is some reduction on some scripts and a couple of new includes. It seems fairly straightforward - he said after some time figuring it all out again - although I see your class idea (and yes, I know you started down this track to start with) has some merit. However, I am not keen to re-invent a wheel which appear roughly round already. There is a massive amount of work here that you have contributed - many thanks. I did notice Credit_Invoice.php doesn't add up the batches/serial numbers retrieved from the invoice it is crediting - although if you go into the controlled page she then recalculates ok. I haven't looked into this yet - you may know the answer. There a fair bit of gettextification done now too. My count says 27 scripts - and most of the real nasties are done. I have to say I am a little dissappointed that the foreign language speakers are not as involved in this as I had hoped. Thanks to everyone who has chipped in so far - hope you guys have the stamina to keep 'em coming. I will try to release a new file later on - there is a fair bit changed now since 2.9 Phil |
