Optimal control of quantum dynamics:
Vibrational excitation in a Morse oscillator

Here we consider the Morse oscillator introduced previously as a model for an anharmonic oscillator. The parametrization is made to resemble the vibrational dynamics of the OH radical which is often considered as a one-dimensional model of water vibrations. We are investigating here the use of ultra-short intense infrared light pulses to excite the OH radical in an effective and state-selective manner.

Optimal control of populations (using overlaps)

In their seminal work on a rapidly convergent iteration methods for quantum optimal control of population, Zhu, Botina, and Rabitz showed how to speed up optimal control simulations for the special case of populations which are described as square moduli of overlaps. Here we repeat some of their calculations for the v=0→1 transition of a Morse oscillator and extend them toward prescribed pulse changes. Learn more ...

Optimal control of populations (using projectors)

In their seminal work on a rapid monotonically convergent iteration algorithm for quantum optimal control over the expectation value of a positive definite operator, Zhu and Rabitz presented a highly efficient approach to optimal control in quantum dynamics. Here we formulate population dynamics in terms of projection operators and apply this to the optimal control of population dynamics, both for closed (TDSE) and open (LvNE) systems. Learn more ...

Optimal control of bond length (using Gaussian AMO)

In their seminal work on a rapid monotonically convergent iteration algorithm for quantum optimal control over the expectation value of a positive definite operator, Zhu and Rabitz presented a highly efficient approach to optimal control in quantum dynamics. Here we repeat some of their calculations where a Gaussian function (multiplicative operator) is used as a model for the optimal control of a bond length. Learn more ...
