Help I'm relatively new to eclipse(Version: 3.2.1) and having trouble loading the wasp plugin(net.sourceforge.wasp.zip). Tried Help=>SoftwareUpdates=>FindAndInstall... but eclipse would not load zip or jar file. What is the process for loading the plugin? What should I expect to once the plugin is loaded? Thanks |

No, not much goes into the UIModule in my experience. Mainly just the code that will decide which page to draw. I think of the Chunks as part of the controller too. In my mind, the template is the view (albeit with a little logic for "if" statements and loops), the UIModule and Chunks are the controller and the data objects and database make up the model. Of course, that's open to interpretation where the lines get drawn. Nigel On Nov 21, 2006, at 1:42 AM, Tim O'Brien wrote: > Thanks Nigel and Joshua, > > I see how it works now thanks. Thanks Nigel and Joshua, I see how it works now thanks. So most of my code has moved from UIModule subclass to the Chunk subclass now. And using the validate/events methods and the error array in the Chunk subclass makes things much easier. In practice does much code go into the UIModule subclass apart from the generated code? This is the Controller part of the MVC model right? Tim, The validation methods are in the Chunk class to so they can validate the inputs of that page/chunk. In your class that extends UIModule, you can construct the chunk (which will automatically check for errors using the validation methods you define for the inputs) then you can use the resulting error array from that chunk to decide which chunk to draw. When the appropriate chunk is selected, pass it as a parameter to the addContent() method of your class that extends UIModule. I hope that helps. It's been a while since I've used WASP, so if anyone else wants to clarify or correct me, please do. Nigel Tim O'Brien wrote: > Hi, > > I am using WASP for a project at the moment. Hi, I am using WASP for a project at the moment. Just wondering whether to use the parameter validation methods. The problem is that the validation methods are part of the Chunk class, so the page that is going to displayed has been already chosen, therefore the validity of the parameters cant change which page is going to displayed. For example, if you had a registration chunk/page with a form, and you wanted to load the "congratulations you've registered" chunk/page if all the form parameters are valid, and if not you would load the registration page again, so they can correct the problem. or even to load an generic error page. Wouldnt it be better to have these validation methods in the UIModule class? Cheers Tim -- Please don't send confidential info to me at this address, thanks |

Download the WASP Eclipse Plugin <http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=140810&package_id=188353> to try out WASP development in the familiar eclipse environment. This is still an Alpha release, so please send feedback / bug reports to the mailing lists. We'll work on getting some documentation for it up soon. I've been doing some minor clean-up work to WASP 1.2 (mostly fixing indentation so as to match existing standards, etc.) and preparing it for release. I was hoping to have it out tonight, but I'm not sure I'll get it there (I think I found a small bug). I've also added a new helper method (something I came up with during the writing of the next how-to article) for reporting errors. It'll come out this week, though. I remember saying "the week of Jan 30th" so I think we're still technically on schedule. :) -BF |

Any work been done on that press release? I'd like to have it sometime this week, since 1.2 is about to be released. (I actually will probably put it up tonight.) |

There is a new wasp-users list available for subscription at http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wasp-users The new list will focus on user related questions like how to install WASP and how to use the components of WASP. I would encourage the users of this list to subscribe to that one as well, as this one has begun to focus strongly on development of the WASP framework itself. Thanks, -BF |

It's more for convenience than anything. Say you design a page that submits via the POST method to the server. It's true that with WASP you could simulate such a submit via the query string in a GET, but it isn't really that much harder to design your own form with a POST to the same URL. Any security issues that would arise from either a GET or a POST should be handled via setting a key in the session, or other form of access control on the server. For reference, many Java Servlet frameworks behave the same way by having the doGet() method refer to the doPost() method. Hope that helps! -BF > > On 21/01/2006, at 9:33 AM, Brian Fioca wrote: > >> ... now lets keep running! >> >> With multiple front page spots on digg.com and now the O'Reilly >> ONLamp article exposure, WASP is an established PHP framework in >> the OSS community. ... now lets keep running! With multiple front page spots on digg.com and now the O'Reilly ONLamp article exposure, WASP is an established PHP framework in the OSS community. It feels great to have gotten this far, thanks to all who have made this possible. However, as more and more people begin to use WASP for their personal and professional applications, we have a responsibility to keep making WASP better. Version 1.2 is in the can and ready for release in just a few days, and a lot of great things are happening with 1.3, 1.4, and 2.0. Let's make sure we treat them as we would any major product release so people can have confidence in the quality of what we are producing. Here are some of the other things I'd like to do: - create a separate WASP user list and/or forum - finish WASP demo app (gojobby.com) - redesign of the home page and logo - get a pre-built XAMPP package (windows/linux) built and made available - PHPUnit integration (http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/php/2005/12/08/phpunit.html) I'm currently writing two more articles, and will be helping out with coding work on upcoming releases. With this new momentum, I'd like try to bring more contributors on board. Ultimately I'd like to get to the point where the answer to the question of "Why should we use PHP5?" is most decidedly, "So we can use WASP." -- Brian Fioca |
