This issue is mentioned in a JIRA ticket here:
http://vufind.org/jira/browse/VUFIND-169
The ticket includes some code contributed by the National Library of Australia to improve the Wikipedia situation. As you say, it's impossible to reach perfection, but this code offers some ideas for improving the situation. Unfortunately, the NLA instance of VuFind is a very early fork and doesn't very closely resemble the trunk at this point. If anybody has time to reconcile the code and submit a patch that works with more contemporary VuFind versions, that would be a big help! Unfortunately, since we don't use the Wikipedia feature here at Villanova, I haven't been able to devote a lot of time to it myself.
thanks,
Demian
