Versions of vsextcomp up to 0.5 will delete the search path for executables upon deinstallation. This search path is stored at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.1\VC\VC_OBJECTS_PLATFORM_INFO\Win32\Directories\Path Dirs

Make sure you backup that key before deinstallation, and restore it afterwards.
