#1 Need to read audio header (wav format from arecord)

It is necessary to read the header of the data generated by arecord (in wav format) in order to:

1. Adjust settings for soundcards that don't support the default data acquisition settings (i.e. mono, S16 @ 22KHz) and,

2. Perhaps avoid indefinite looping which happens sporadically with default settings and more frequently with non-default settings.

It should be possible to copy the appropriate routines from the aplay/arecord source file available in the alsa-utils package.
