I'm also curious if this is still a planned fix? Java security settings block the java viewer entirely under default settings, due to the missing required permissions manifest attribute. The warning messages for allowing it run are a deterrent for client machines. -- View this message in context: http://tightvnc.10971.n7.nabble.com/Re-applet-missing-required-permissions-mainfest-attribute-in-main-jar-tp3809p3847.html Sent from the VNC Tight Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hello, I recently reported a bug (https://sourceforge.net/p/vnc-tight/bugs/1303/) with passing Alt-Tab in fullscreen mode to a Windows 8 server. I found a fix and have posted a patch in the bug report. I hope you'll consider this patch for inclusion in the next release. Thank you! -- Ron Isaacson isa...@lj... |

Hi, I am very much confused in understanding why is the difference in behavior for service and application modes of tightVNC. I observed that the desktopServer process launched when TightVNC is running as service is relaunched in RDP session(session id 5) but what we see in the TightVNC viewer shows just the Widows secure desktop instead of RDP session. First thing I wanted to know is why does desktopServer is killed and relaunched. Is their a limitation ? Where as TightVNC server running as application is not relaunched(of course when killed the session will terminate) when RDP session(session ID 5) is started and still runs on session 1( as per my observation). My main doubt is why do we have to relaunch desktop server when RDP session initiated. Thanks Sudhir |

I cannot get VNC server on one computer to allow file transfers to a client. Another server at a different location works fine. The situation is: Client: TightVNC Viewer 1.3.9 Server 1: TightVNC Server 1.3.9. This one works fine. Server 2: TightVNC Server 2.7.10. File Transfer button is grayed out. In the same building as Client machine. Problem is the same connecting by LAN. "Enable file transfers" is checked on both servers. I have uncheked, restart server, and recheck the option and restart again in case some registry entry needed to be set. All machines running Windows XP SP3. Is the newer server not compatible with the earlier versions? Changing anything on Server 2 involves a lot more hassle than making changes to the other 2 machines, so I'm hoping I'm overlooking something simple and not have to reinstall TightVNC on Server 2. I'm guessing I'll wind up uninstalling, cleaning registry flotsam, then install 1.3.9. Any ideas before I have to do all that? This is followed by the file path and name but is only wide enough to display the following: "C:/Documents and Settings/Roger/Application Data/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Quick " I don't know why the back-slashes are changed to forward-slashes, but the point is that the file is not identified by this truncated message. -- View this message in context: http://tightvnc.10971.n7.nabble.com/TightVNC-File-Transfer-Warning-Window-Not-Wide-Enough-tp3661.html Sent from the VNC Tight Development mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hello, I am helplessly looking for a convenient way to annotate Power Point slides presented from my laptop using my Android phone or tablet and a stylus. I tried Remote Ripple and it is very, very promising for that purpose, but would need one minor extra feature/option to be fully operational. Please consider implementing it. There is a nice feature that when you "press" and hold mouse button on the Android screen, Remote Ripple keeps it "pressed" until you tap on it again. It allows handwriting on a Power Point slide using built-in annotating feature, but has one great disadvantage - when you stop writing one letter and move to the another you get a line connecting previous letter ending with following letter begining. Although you move the stylus above the screen and just tap another point on the screen it works as you would move the mouse from one point to the another with the button pressed. It seems to be reasonable in some way but unables normal handwriting. *For writing you would need an option that keeps the mouse button "pressed", but only WHEN and WHERE you touch the Android screen. * Interestingly how the program works now is that when you have mouse key permanently "pressed" and you just tap two different points on the screen you don't get the line connecting those two points. You get the line only when you tap another point on the screen after moving the stylus and drawing a line. Thank you in advance for taking my proposal into consideration. Hello, Is there any way to include screenreader support in TightVNC? I am a blind computer user, and need to use vnc to access some remote systems. None of the screenreaders on the market today say that they support VNC style connections, however, I was wondering if there would be a way to include some hooks into TightVNC to enable screenreaders to "read" the remote system's screen? As an accessibility specialist for almost 13 years, I would be willing to help in any way I can to enable this functionality including testing, and possibly coding. |

Dear, I am working on a virtualization project using xen hypervisor. I have to machines. Machine A has an IP address 192.168.0.10 and machine B has 192.168.0.20. Both machines contains xampp server, connected through simple UTP cable, no router no modem, working locally. All the configuration has done on machine B. When I used TightVNC java viewer It works fine on host machine, that is machine B. Following is the applet code: <APPLET CODE="VncViewer.class" ARCHIVE="VncViewer.jar" WIDTH="1366" HEIGHT="768"><PARAM NAME="PORT" VALUE="5901"><param name="HOST" value="127.0.0.1"></APPLET> I have several virtual machines with unique ports like 5901,5902,... all working fine on changing port dynamically in applet code on host system. When I am accessing machine B from A it gives me an error, that is as follows: Error: access denied ("java.net.socketPermission","127.0.0.1:5901","connect,resolve") Could you please help me . . Hi Renato You could write a batch file that restores the registry keys required, fires up VNC Server, then cleans up afterwards - that would make it nicely portable. I did something similar with a WinPE image - in the startnet.cmd file I had it restore the registry keys for the passwords, then fire up the server. Hello, I am looking for a simple standalone VNC server. Something that does not need to be installed on WIndows and could be ran just by clicking on an icon. It doesn't need any "reverse connection controls", just the usual VNC service. I intend to use it with SSH (and its reverse connection capabilities) to develop a remote support solution. The problem is that I did not find any VNC server matching these needs... I'd like to know if it is possible to use tightvncserver this way... Or at least if I could compile a minimal version of it to work like this. By now, the best solution I've found is libvncserver, which enables to build a vnc server from scratch. But I think there are easier solutions... Thanks, []'s Renato. |

I ran into a problem with someone trying to hack a vncserver, so it got blocked with too many retries for everyone. I didn't want to go down the path of tcpd, so I modified the 1.3.10 code. Attached are my changes (from Xvnc/program/Xserver/hw/) The idea is each max retry failure adds to a blocklist. The blocklist is in memory and gets put in ~/.vnc/blockip (configurable in rfb.h) The blocklist is reread with a kill -HUP on Xvnc (so you can remove a block without restarting) Once in the blocklist, the client is is refused in socket.c (so the normal timer resets will work). I have only tested in linux. Possible improvements: Also optionally(?) read hosts.deny Make the blockedIPs array dynamic in size (currently static with #define MAX_BLOCK_IP in rfb.h) The blocking in auth.c is done in 2 places, but probably just needs to be in one of them. Cheers, -E. |

Eric Wheeler and David Vogt submitted patches to enable ssh keys to be used in place of user name / password authentication. Are these planned to be included in a release? These additions to tvnjviewer-2.6 would be helpful in making the ssh connection transparent to users. That is, there would be no need to enter "yes" to known host and no password.
