Currently I use a small freeware program called IPsound. It is very simple but works and allows selecting sample rates and methods. You select the audio you want to monitor at the server end and what sound device plays it at the client end. I use this with tightvnc and it works fine BUT it would be real nice if it were integrated. If you do integrate sound please allow for multiple formats and sample rates.

Microsoft has done it with their remote desktop software, VNC
should have it too.
