#1459 VNC input character display corruption in xterm

Configuration: Rpi3B+ with 2018-11-13 Raspbian Lite with xdm, tightvncserver, xterm and other X server stuff.

Output characters are fine, but characters typed as input to an xterm are corrupt on the screen. Looks like 2 characters are good, then the next 2 are successively worse, then it repeats.

Other points of note:

  • No similar problem when connecting to an openSuse system
  • 3 viewers (tightvnc, ultravnc, realvnc) demonstrate the same problem
  • Not sure that it matters, but vnc started from xinetd (as it is on openSuse system as well)
  • Same issue exhibited on an RPi3
  • Also seeing it with uxterm and lxterm, but not in Firefox
  • The issue doesn't occur if a TrueType font is used, but I prefer to use 9x15bold
  • Scaling is set to 100%
  • Have tried all encodings with same result

While it's not horrible, it's annoying enough that I'd like to get it fixed, and would appreciate any solutions or hints.
