PLEASE READ THE BLOG... A hardware & software system to enable a visually impaired person to walk around with real time awareness of surrounding objects instantly obtained and disclosed quickly via sound. Not a replacement for a white cane, but intended to augment that use. Could make GPS walking navigation more practical. Inputs are two webcams and two 180 degree ultrasonic sonar units. Outputs are hard shell headphones modified to be open air skeletons with recessed small transducer cups in the centers, to avoid blocking mission critical open air sounds. Processing is VipNav app on a smart phone that cooperates with GPS app to take turns outputting audio. Two webcams, with forward & rear sonar, 3D detect close/approaching objects, reporting on such in real time using tones and speech. I don't have the time this idea/invention needs. Rather than patenting it, I'm donating it to the public. If you think it ought to be done, please join up and help make this concept a reality.
Features
- Audio display of nearby physical objects
- Approaching object alarm and navigation data
- Cooperates with GPS for sharing audio output
- Runs on same smart phone as GPS app.
- Instantly describes object locations and general shapes using tones.
- Speech tells distance of closest object and or approaching object.
- Ultrasonic Sonar of closest object calibrates dual camera depth perception in real time.
- Sonar Resolution approximately one third of an inch
