In case you missed it from my other posts, I have no time. If you have the time, this project would benefit from your helping in the administration end as well as the engineering end. Just saying.

I am inventor with several patents to my name. And I have no time.
I could easily patent this as a method and system patent, but that
would be neither lucrative nor humane, considering the work required
to bring it to market and the limited number of people who need this.
It would cost each person too much to have one, and the people who
need it are not megabucks wealthy. This is where you come in. I've
given this idea away, in case you haven't noticed. And I'm hoping that
others will freely give of their time to get it working and to market...
...meaning, an open source code for smart phones and an open source
schematic for the ultrasonic sonar unit. That part's not rocket science.
All it needs to do is to send and recognize a unique pulse code at 44.1
khz clock rate via ultrasonic transducers, and calculate the distance of
the first echo. The pulse pattern can be very brief and very simple. As
mach1 is 1127 fps, the resolution is one third of an inch, using a first
wave front of the leading clock pulse as the reflection timing. After that
the rest of the pulse pattern can be detected and verified. The only
advantage to a unique pulse is for dealing with situations where there
may be more than one similar unit in range. Normally the pulse pattern
will not matter, and only the leading wavefront of the leading carrier will
be relevant, but there is room in the system concept for detecting other
similar units and warning the user of potential confusion. Additional to
such pulse pattern, detection of other units may also be triggered by
any reflection that arrives before the pulse is sent, meaning that another
unit is in close proximity. As you can tell, I can provide the ideas for
the system, but not the time to reduce it to practice. I have other irons
on the fire that claim priority in my own life. But I am willing to provide
the basic ideas, and let others fill it all in. Where I come in is just that,
being an idea man. If you get stuck in any area, let me know and I may
have the right idea to get past the hurdle. When I thought of this idea,
I had three choices:

1. To keep it a trade secret and work on it someday,
2. To patent it and bleed off the profits of anyone who did anything similar,
3. To post the basic invention here in the hopes that others can run with it.... read more

Introduction:
Due to the limited market for this invention, as well as the amount of
development effort required to reduce it to practice, as a function of
the cost per unit that would be required to break even, it would not be
simultaneously lucrative and humane to patent it.

Therefore, to further its development and prevent anyone else from
blockading it via patents, I am hereby publicly presenting this idea
within the public marketplace, with the intent to create a SourceForge
project dedicated thereto. This will become an open source and open
