Why don't you put up a version of the tutorial on the vim-latex cvs server. Maybe make a module like "tutorial" or something. I remember giving a sort of cvs introduction to Mikolaj long back to get him started. Maybe you too can get a sourceforge account so we can all keep in sync much more easily. The reason I ask is that I am sort of interested in spending a little time occassionally and contributing to the tutorial. Srinath |

Hello, I have uploaded new release of latexSuite to http://vim-latex.sf.net . In fact this is the latest BETA release because I discovered what can be a bug. In compiler.vim are two lines: "exec 'bot pedit +/(\(\f\|\[\|\]\)*'.errfile.'/ '.a:filename.'.log' exec 'bot pedit +/(\\(\\f\\|\\[\\|\\]\\)\*'.errfile.'/ '.a:filename.'.log' First is an old version which caused errors while walking through error list with j and k. I had to add slashes to escape special characters but I remember old version worked properly. Could you test it and write what works for you? ChangeLog is under link Release Notes on Download page. Srinath: Could you change permissions in htdocs directory of site to make possible rw-rw-r-- for _all_ files? m. |

I am casual user of vim-latex, so I can be wrong. I use russian keymap (have in vimrc :set keymap=russian-jcukenwin). In that layout " key is mapped to russian letter 'E'. And using this keymap with vim-latex has very strange effect: If Vim (6.2f-BETA) was started like "gvim blah.tex", I'm not able to insert capital 'E' - it will always get replaced with ``. But if I start gvim and open file from it (:e blah.tex), capital 'E' is not replaced with ``. I skipped through vim-latex code but didn't find the reason. Also on russian keyboard " is placed on key '2' (like @ on english kbd). Let's try: Now we have to write something more difficult. We need for it package. Packages vastly improve possibilities of LaTeX and LaTeX-Suite has great system of supporting packages. Add eg. amsmath (it extends math editing) in our document. Go to the \documentclass line and press 'o'. It opens new line. Now go to the packages menu: TeX-Suite>Packages>Supported and check if amsmath is supported. It is. Choose. Now you have: % File: % Created: czw maj 29 07:00 2003 C % Last Change: czw maj 29 07:00 2003 C % \documentclass[a4paper]{article} \usepackage[|]{amsmath}<++> \begin{document} \end{document} << cursor at | >> Now you can add some options. Look again in TeX-Suite>Packages menu. At the end are two new items: amsmath Options and amsmath Commands. Look into Options and choose one: tbtags. It will be inserted with comma, delete comma and press <C-J>. Press <CR>, you want to add new package. Oops, it is not supported. But you don't have write whole command (\usepackage{asdf}) just asdf<F5>, LaTeX-Suite complete it. Of course you don't have always use menu to insert declaration amsmath package. After <F5> LaTeX-Suite will check if this package is supported, and if so it will make all magic (add menus, highlighting for new environments, functions specific for package and so on). Things to remember/know: <F5> shortcut In texrc you can move Packages menu to menu bar. m. |

As I wrote previously you can make with :map with existing "bricks". Just change g:Tex_CompileRule_pdf in texrc with ps2pdf (default is pdflatex). You can also create your own CompileRule. Example: I replaced in first section of texrc DefaultTargetFormat with 'mik' (default is dvi). Then in section of Compilers added: TexLet g:Tex_CompileRule_mik = 'platex ' . s:CompileFlags . \ ' -interaction=nonstopmode $* ; dvips -Ppdf -o $*.ps $*.dvi' And in Viewers: TexLet g:Tex_ViewRule_mik = 'ghostview' And I can create .ps with one <Leader>ll. IMO there is too many possible combinations to include them in lS. But lS provides simple API to make various things possible. Maybe such things could be put in TIPS&TRICKS section of latex-suite.txt (by OTHER PLUGINGS - any propositions?). m. Drone, Offensive, Special Circumstances, Contact. :) ps. Ah, I understand now problems with ps target. It produces .ps from .dvi not directly from .tex file. |

Yes I agree that using every time :TCTarget is a bit awkward but why not make map yourself? For me works: Direct compilation of .ps: :map <Leader>lo <Leader>ll:TCTarget ps<cr><Leader>ll:TCTarget dvi<cr> <Leader>lo - \ is not hardcoded in latexSuite it is in fact <Leader> <Leader>ll - compile with default target - here dvi :TCTarget ps<cr> - change target to ps <Leader>ll - compile with new target - ps :TCTarget dvi<cr> - return to old target Compilation fo .ps from existing .dvi (it will compile existing .dvi file with %:r equal to %:r of your file): :map <Leader>lo <Leader>ll:TCTarget ps<cr><Leader>ll:TCTarget dvi<cr> <Leader>lo - \ is not hardcoded in latexSuite it is in fact <Leader> :TCTarget ps<cr> - change target to ps <Leader>ll - compile with new target - ps :TCTarget dvi<cr> - return to old target IMO latexSuite is already complicated enough to build things from its "API". Building from bricks is Vim philosophy :) m. |

Hello, I have prepared "BETA" release of latexSuite. Here is ChangeLog (new feature in lS ;) : After 8 May 2003 Features * texviewer.vim: Look for bibfiles in $BIBINPUTS env variable (Soren Debois) * envmacros.vim: Check in package variables for templates for environments inserted from line with <F5> (MM) * packages/amsmath: Templates for alignat and alignat* envs in amsmath package file (MM) * compiler.vim: Added support for regular viewing and forward searching for kdvi (KDE viewer of .dvi files) (MM) * mathmacros.vim, main.vim, texrc, latex-suite.txt: Added utf-8 menus for math (MM) * ChangeLog: Add ChangeLog file in ftplugin/latex-suite directory (MM) * wizardfuncs.vim, latex-suite.txt: Tshortcuts - new command show various shortcuts (MM) * latex-suite.txt: More cross-references with main Vim help, corrected mispells (MM) * texmenuconf.vim: Show value of <mapleader> in General menu instead of hardcoded \ (it caused confusion) (MM) Bugfixes * compiler.vim: Compile file with current file expansion, not always .tex file (MM) * texviewer.vim: Check if s:type exists in UpdateViewerWindow (MM) Few comments: 1. Tshortcuts produces annoying bug: Trailing characters - I don't know what causes this message (Vim6.2f). But command itself works properly. 2. Please check how utf-8 menus work for you: especially various systems. For me it works nice (gtk2 there is some bugs in font - I checked codes of chars against tables from unicode.org). If you find more automated way to load them it would be great 3. Forward searching in kdvi not always works properly - it is kdvi bug and was communicated to maintainer of kdvi Here it is: http://skawina.eu.org/mikolaj/latexSuite20030529.tar.gz (ca. 190kB, only tar.gz - under MS-Windows you can unpack this archive) Enjoy :) m. |
