I will do it in next few days. Is amsguide.pdf good as a reference (I don't know ams-latex)? I want to emphasize again that the ability to change environments is a standard part of the emacs auctex package. It really should be included in vim-latex. I included it in auctex.vim with the following additions. They save a lot of time in my own typing: 1. Changing from "eqnarray" or "eqnarray*" to "equation" or "\[\]" automatically deletes "&" and "\nonumber" and "\\". 2. Changing from "eqnarray" to "eqnarray*" automatically deletes "\nonumber". I bound the environment-changing commands to <C-F1> through <C-F5>. ----------------- In emacs auctex, and also my package, typing "..." results in "\dots". This is absolutely logical, and it would be a shame to leave it out. ----------------- You might want to consider "polymorphic macros". I implemented the following: 1. In insert mode, <Alt-L> puts \left...\right in front of the bracket to the right of the cursor, and the one before the cursor. If the line is blank, <Alt-L> puts in "\label{}". If the letter before the cursor is "q", then <Alt-L> results in "\lefteqn{". 2. In insert mode, if the space before the cursor is blank, <Alt-C> inserts "\cite{}". Otherwise, it capitalizes the character before the cursor and encloses it in "\mathcal{}" 3. On a blank line, in insert mode, <F5> asks the user for the name of the environment, and creates the environment. But one can also create the environment by typing its name, and then typing <F5>. I don't know if these kind of macros are too complicated for most users, but I definitely prefer them. Best wishes, Carl Mueller |

I have a headache! Here is the current state of affairs. When latex-suite/main.vim is called, the following things happen (details edited out): * :source compiler.vim * :fun! SetTeXCompilerTarget() * :com! TCTarget :call SetTeXCompilerTarget() * :fun! <SID>SetTeXOptions() * :setlocal sw ts isk (This step should be deleted, but that is not today's headache.) * :TCTarget * :runtime compiler/tex.vim * :call <SID>SetTeXOptions() The net effect is that compiler/tex.vim is sourced after SetTexCompilerTarget() is called, so the compiler script sets 'makeprg'. At Srinath's request, I have uncommented the "runtime compiler/tex.vim" line; I commented this out in a revision a few days ago. If you guys trust me, I will make radical changes at some point. For now, my goal is to undo the damage I did, and maybe make a small improvement. (My new setting for 'makeprg' works on more systems, I think.) I have tested this on Linux, W95, and OSX. (On OSX, it is a problem that compiler/tex.vim ignores the target format, since most users want pdf instead of dvi.) One thing I cannot figure out: on W95, g:Tex_CompilerFormat is defined, and I cannot figure out where. This variable is used in compiler/tex.vim and overrides all other methods. --Benji |

Hello! I just had a look at the bracket changing functions in auctex.vim. Its a pretty neat idea. Including those functions in latex-suite is definitely the right thing to do... We have to consolidate the latex-suite structure somewhat so that from next time on, adding such contributions becomes seamless (plugins for latex-suite?) In the meanwhile, I will add the bracketing things manually when I next get around to it (unless someone volunteers to do it). Also, about amslatex, I am not too familiar with that. Mikolaj, you want to take that up? A general doubt which I asked Mikolaj a long time ago: is there a tool which parses a .sty file and is able to extract all the options, commands etc? This might make supporting new packages easier. Thanks, Srinath On Fri, 8 Nov 2002, Hermitte Luc wrote: PS: Hey Luc! Welcome to the group! |

Sorry, I meant to say that amslatex is indicated by \usepackage{amsmath} with further options such as amsthm, amsfonts. Amslatex is equal to latex among mathematicians. It should be supported. In particular, there are lots of environments like \begin{align} \end{align} \begin{align*} \end{align*} \begin{multline} \end{multline As well as handy options such as \numberwithin{equation}{section} for numbering according to the section. But, they are not only useful to (La)TeX. So, I did include them in a script dedicated to brackets handling: common-brackets.vim. I've uploaded the latest version earlier on SF. Otherwise it is also available on my web site. Srinath, Mikolaj, On a close topic, I've also updated my variation on Stephen Riehm's initial bracketing system, and more particulary: the markers system. Now, it is possible to jump forward and backward to markers. I will have more checkings to do, but I'm afraid you don't systematically use generical markers but sometimes still «». Which is bad. «» are the French quote characters used in LaTeX. If you eventually use my new system, you can statically change '«»' to Markers_Txt({any-comment}). For a dynamical choice [1] of markers used, deeper changes will be required. <adv>which I already manage in lh-tex ;-)</adv>. Regards, [1] if you want to use «» in a English TeX buffer, but %%%() in a French TeX buffer. -- Luc Hermitte http://hermitte.free.fr/vim |

For vim-latex, you certainly want a macro for changing environments. This is part of the emacs package "auctex", and I implemented it in my auctex.vim script (which I already sent you). Best wishes, Carl Mueller |

This is a plea for vim-latex to support ams-latex. It is one of the main packages that mathematicians use, and is indicated by \usepackage{amsmath,amsthm,amsfonts} (along with other possible options such as "amsthm", "amsfonts") vim-latex is certainly a step forward! Thanks to everyone involved. Best wishes, Carl Mueller |

Hello, When calling the tex compiler with \ll resp :call RunLaTeX() I got the message :!latex\\nonstopmode \\input\{paper\} |& tee /tmp/v783170/2 latex\nonstopmode: Command not found. shell returned 1 This seems to be due to a missing space after the latex command. I changed this in compiler/tex.vim, now it works. This is not a bug. This is a feature :) In latin1 Ťť are chars of big beauty <<>>. Unfortunately in latin2 (aka iso-8859-2 and probably also in cp1250) in this place are Chech diacritics. This pair is called placeholders (read :help placeholders). You can use it to easy move through templates and environments. Solution is common for all latin2 users: In texrc is possibility of changing this characters. Eg. for '<>' Edit your personal texr. Hello, I just put up Vim-LaTeX on vim.sf.net at http://vim.sourceforge.net/script.php?script_id=475 The blurb which accompanies the file is as follows (If you think I need to tone down the "advertisy" feel a little, let me know). -- Srinath Vim-LaTeX (aka LaTeX-suite) is a mature project which aims at bringing together the rich set of LaTeX tools the vim community has produced over the years into one comprehensive package. It provides a set of tools which enable you to do all your LaTeX-ing without needing to quit Vim. Vim-LaTeX has its own web-page at: http://vim-latex.sf.net/ Please visit there to get the latest version, documentation, screen shots etc. A brief (not complete) list of the features currently supported by Vim-LaTeX are as follows: * Editing: Latex-Suite ships with a very comprehensive set of insert mode and visual mode mappings and menu items to typeset most of the LaTeX elements. These range from 3 letter insert mode mappings which insert a skeleton of common typesetting elements to visual mode mappings which enclose the selected region in braces, parentheses, etc. The mappings can also be accessed via the menus. * Compiling: You can compile the tex file from within vim. The list of errors is shown in a quickfix window so you can directly go to the location of an error. The compiler plugin can be dynamically reconfigured to show you more or less warnings. * Viewing: By pressing a key from within vim, the .dvi viewer is started up. You can also do forward and inverse searching on your .dvi file from within vim. * Folding: Latex-suite ships with the plugin SyntaxFolds.vim which is a plugin for creating "fake" syntax folds on the fly. The fold method is actually manual but the folding is based on LaTeX syntax. This offers a speed increase over regular syntax folding. When you open up a LaTeX file, all the portions will be automatically folded up. * Packages: This module provides ways of customizing the menus based on which packages are being used in the current LaTeX file. When latex-suite first starts up, it scans the latex-master-file for \usepackage{name} lines and if the corresponding package is found in the latex-suite/packages/ directory, then creates a sub-menu based on the specification found in that file. See the list of currently supported packages. * LaTeX help file: Latex-suite ships with the standard texinfo file translated into vim help format so that you can get help for common latex commands from within vim. You can view the html version of this file here. * Dictionary: Latex-suite ships with a dictionary with over 600 LaTeX commands, which speeds up typing using the CTRL-X_d command of vim. * Customized Templates: Latex-suite ships with some commonly used latex templates. It is trivial to add your own templates. The templates can contain dynamic data such as time of creation etc. See list of current templates. * Customized Macros: Latex-suite makes it easy to add custom macros, again with the possibility of dynamic content and automatic cursor placement. See http://vim-latex.sf.net/index.php?subject=weare for the list of maintainers / how to contact us. Vim-LaTeX is currently maintained by Srinath Avadhanula Mikolaj Machowski Benji Fisher INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: The installation instructions (along with the latest stable versions of LaTeX-suite) are maintained at: http://vim-latex.sf.net/index.php?subject=download |

Yes... Registering on vim.sf.net is one thing which has been getting put off since a loong long time... Anyway, I will do this sometime this evening, after a quick test of a few things on my win32 machine. We do not have to update it constantly, so long as we provide a link. We should also consider uploading to CTAN. I am willing to upload to vim.sf.net, and I will probably be willing to upload to CTAN eventually, but I have never done that before. --Benji |

Hi, I think I've found a bug in vim-latex. When I choose package from menu TeX-Packages (for example hyperref) then \usepackage[]=AB=BB{hyperref}=AB=BB} is iserted. ^^ ^^ Problem concern TeX-Environments too - for example itemize, after \end{itemize} the same strange chars are inserted. --=20 Tom |

Of course, LaTeX commenting is so simple that this might be overkill. I cannot recommend where to put it in the existing files. Personally, I would rather not use % for the mapping. With matchit.vim installed, "V%d" is a convenient way to delete from "\begin{foo}" to "\end{foo}". --Benji |
