Could I ask to add a transparency mode for the layers like in Gimp?
Basically what I'm hoping for is at least an "Overlay" and "Normal" modes like the ones that are in Gimp.
In the "Layer Properties" there is a slider for "alpha" channel. It would be great of you could also select the mode.
I don't understand how the "Overlay" and "Normal" modes differ as I rarely use Gimp and then only for what I think are simple operations.
Could you elaborate some more on these modes?
Sorry, after some testing, this is not going to acheive what I want. The just of what I'm looking for is a way to see a Bing Birdseye view in the background with just the streats, names and other data in the forground similar to what you would see on Google "Earth" view. when I tested this out in Gimp using overlay it didn't work the way I expected, However, divide mode gave me more interesting results, but still not ideal. I don't think there is a good way to mix Birdseye and OSM to get a really nice look like Google Earth, but it still might be worth adding some mix modes. Here is a link that explains the modes and the math behind them: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-concepts-layer-modes.html
I don't think this will work well, I think it would be best to somehow get proper alpha chanels in the actual map tiles and use them instead...
I think anything more advanced beyond the current simple layering with alpha control is out of scope for Viking.
Of course if anyone is willing to write such code then it would be considered for inclusion.
