I can confirm this happens on Ubuntu 20.04 r45156 as well. Not sure what "Keep monitor open" is supposed to do. I never noticed the setting.

It sounds like this is simply the expected behaviour (so the question is: what behabiour did you expect?)

The option is to keep the window open, no more no less - like the oldstyle terminal based monitor would not "close" when leaving it either. The (only) purpose is so you can see tracepoints "live", and not just when entering the monitor.

ie: it does NOT mean you can keep typing in the monitor.

Ok, makes sense but then I'm wondering why the window closes when doing x?

    Well that's expected, isn't it?

I'm so used to use x to continue execution so I have no clue how to do that in another way keeping the monitor open. If there is a way, great. For me personally, I want it to close.

This was decided because... as you said, ppl expect it. If you just want to leave the monitor use "g" (without address) instead, that keeps it open. Not sure if this is documented (but it probably should be) =P

I see, now that I know of it I will probably be turning off that option to make reset behave more like x. I can confirm that a sole g does what you say though. I wouldn't have expected that. The way I perceive g is that it forces a state on the machine, rather than smoothly continuing.
