I am using Windows 10 64 bit and have recently started using Veracrypt to create an encrypted partition on my PC's hard drive for my sensitive files, as well as encrypting my external hard drive for backups.

Previously, I used the "create a system image" feature in Control Panel\Backup and Restore (Windows 7) to back up an image of my complete system to my external hard drive.

Since using Veracrypt, I noticed that the "create a system image" function cannot find the external hard drive any time any Veracrypt volumes are mounted. The error that it gives is:

"Windows could not find backup devices on this computer. The following information might explain why the problem occurred: Incorrect function. (0x80070001) Close Windows backup and try again"

If I dismount all Veracrypt volumes and connect an external HDD that isn't encrypted, the system image process works normally. But if either my main hard drive Veracrypt volume or the encrypted external HDD (or both) are mounted, the above error occurs.

It's not a problem to dismount my main hard drive volume when creating the system image. However, I need to be able to create the system image on an external HDD that is encrypted, and hence it needs to be mounted when the image is created.

Can anyone help with getting this to work?

Thanks for your help!
