I would like to change the password from a outer volume. The volume size is 8 TB and a ISCSI drive on a NAS. The creation of the volume has lasted 4-5 days. Does the password change also take that time, or is it done quick.

Assuming you do not change the PIM to a larger value, the password change will take approximately 2 - 3 times the current mount volume time.

I think you misunderstood that the change password is approximately 2 - 3 times the current mount volume time.
Example: If mounting the volume takes 30 seconds, then the password change should be approximately 1 to 1.5 minutes.
