Big Truecrypt volumes go to Windows Virtual Memory on SSD?

I use Truecrypt version 7.1a, installed as a portable program on a conventional External HD. My internal HD is an SSD running Windows 7. The system has only 4GB RAM, which I can’t increase. My Truecrypt volumes are stored on the external HD which is always connected to the system by USB.

When I open a 10GB Truecrypt volume, is most of the 10GB going to my Windows 7 Pagefile (Virtual Memory) because I have only 4GB RAM? I am concerned because my system HD is an SSD and I try to minimize writes to it.

I often have 4 or 5 TC volumes open at once, totalling over 20GB. So is all this going to my Pagefile and wearing out my SSD?

My pagefile is set to only 1024 MB so I am baffled as to how the 10GB TC volume can run smoothly, which it does. Where is the 10GB going?

Am wondering whether to move my PageFile to the same external HD that the TC container files are on.

    Any help appreciated.

TC/VC volumes are not fully loaded into RAM on mount. They are read on a per-sector demand basis just like any physical drive would be.

Thank you very much, Neos6464. So I don't have to worry about the Truecrypt volumes harming my SSD, as even if a huge volume is mounted, only each individual file that is read is actually loaded into RAM, and then when the file is closed, it frees up the RAM again. I hope I am understanding that correctly.

I don't know where I got the idea that the whole volume was loaded into RAM, but it's nice not to have to worry about this.
