I have an 8TB external HDD that I would like to permanently decrypt. It appears like this in select device
and like this when unmounted
but when I try to permanently decrypt it (with or without mounting it first), I get this error
The drive works fine but I want to permanently decrypt it and I don't have a large enough drive to transfer my data onto. Please help!

Bump. There are a lot of threads on this issue, and I can't find a way to resolve it. I have a non-system Volume encrypted, and run into the same error as the threadstarter when attempting to decrypt it. Quite frustrating!
This is to be expected, as, in this case, the whole disk was encrypted and not only one or more partitions. A disk needs to be formatted as MBR or GPT for partition management. When encrypting an entire drive, nothing like this is created.
In this case, the only way to go is to copy all data off the drive, then format as MBR or GPT, create one or more partitions and copy data back.
