VeraCrypt Error Message "You need to format the disk in drive D: before you can use it."

I created a exFat container and days later went to expand the volume not realising at the time expansion only applied to NTFS format containers.

Although the container was successfully expanded according to VeraCrypt but the problem I have is that when I want to mount it on windows I get the error message:
***“You need to format the disk in drive D: before you can use it.” (see screenshot attached)

I am no longer able to see any of my files.

Can anyone help on how I can resolve this issue?
