I installed VeraCrypt 1.26.7 (64-bit) earlier this week on a test computer
running Windows 10 (fully patched). I wanted to encrypt a backup in case
anyone stole the HDD I use for backup.
Installing went fine, as did the container creation. Robocopy also worked
well to the mounted drive.
Once that was done, I tried to configure Auto-mount. That failed. My notes
follow:
I saw several old messages when I searched for a solution using "Auto-mount
failed due to one or more of the following". But none of them seem to have
a solution for those who have recently installed VeraCrypt!
You will have to decide when you want the non-system encrypted volumes to mount.
System Favorite Volumes - Encrypt the non-system volumes using the same password/PIM that you enter at the bootloader screen. The volumes will be mounted when Windows boots.
Favorite Volumes - You mount the volumes or select an option when to mount. In the GUI, Favorites > Organize Favorites Volumes to see the various options.

If I understand correctly, because I didn't encrypt a partition, I cannot use Auto-mount.
Enigma2Illusion: I took a look at the links you provided for System Favorite Volumes and Favorite Volumes. I don't think either of them applies to what I want to do: after restarting the computer, I want the encrypted container on the USB Drive to mount automatically. Is there anyway to do that, perhaps using a BAT file?

Incorrect. Auto-Mount works only for encrypted non-system (i.e. not System Encryption) disks or partitions. The only difference is if you specify cache the System Encryption password/PIM to use for auto-mount or use System Favorite Volumes.
I would recommend that you setup the mounting of the file container using Favorite Volumes.
You can enable a hot-key to mount Favorite Volumes in Settings > Hot Keys or enable the various options in Favorite Volumes.
You will still need to enter the password, any custom PIM that you may have used when you created the volume and/or keyfiles.

Auto-mount failed due to one or more of the following:
- Incorrect password
- Incorrect Volume PIM number
- Incorrect PRF (hash)
- No valid volume

Are you attempting to use "Auto-mount devices" to mount your file container, or are you referring to the Favorite volumes?

Hi John,
Auto-mount attempts to identify all non-system disk/partitions and mount them. Auto-mount is not for file containers.
See the documentation section for Auto-Mount Devices in the link below.
