How to speed up and pause formatting large hard disk VC initialization? 3 days duration!

I have bought a large 8 TeraByte external hard disk which is connected via USB v3.0 cable to my new Win10 computer.

In order to prepare this hard disk for VC usage I have to full format it.

According to the progress indicator the formatting process will most probably last for 3 days (!).

This is unbelievable but true.

Is there really no workaround to speed up the formatting process?

Can I at least pause+stop it during other work and resume it later (e.g. over night)?
