I have created a very large encrypted file container (ex: 500GB) on Veracrypt 1.23-Hotfix-2, however, it is taking a very long time to format it (>24 hours). On Windows, there is no option to "Quick format" when creating file container. If I were to create a encrypted partition, then the "Quick format" option appears.
I have tried the following to circumvent the issue:
1) Using a dyanmic (sparse file)" file container. This method works and formats quickly, however Veracrypt warns that sparse file containers have lower performance, less secure, and easily corrupted... For this reason, I prefer not to use dynamic container.
2) I tired creating a small container (ex: 1GB), and then using Volume Expander to expand the container to a larger size (ex: 500GB). This method does NOT work because the expansion process, Writing random data to new space ..., takes a really long time.
Why does Veracrypt NOT support ability to do quick format for file containers?
Is there a way I can bypass this issue?
Previously another person in the forum mentioned that a temporary bypass is to kill the 'Veracrypt Format' process but then I would have to manually fill the regions 0x200 to 0x20000, 0x1000 to 0x200 from the end of the file, and any free space with simulated encrypted data. How can I do this?
