I wanted to check out whether I could use the touch screen to login, so I changed this mode, but it's not falling back to keyboard entry. It says something about "file not found." and not asking for the password, just the PIM. Can I hold some function key down during boot to get it to request the password via keyboard?

Also, I'm pretty sure I only encrypted the windows partition, not the recovery partition, but I can't seem to boot into the recovery partition. If only the windows partition was encrypted, using the recovery partition should still be possible right?

Just an update. Apparently, the WINRE was still there (unecrypted), but I found no way to manually start it. However, after tinkering around with boot options in the BIOS and rebooting, somehow it started an automatic recovery attempt. That failed obviously because the windows drive was encrypted, but it then allowed me to open a command shell in WINPE from which I could switch back passwordMode.

Seems like if you encounter an error while trying to prompt for the password, you should switch tot he default means. I'm not sure how that would compromise security - seems like you have to have a very contrived scenario to imagine it compromising security
