    Hello !
I am a new user of your excellent Veracrypt, using the latest version of windows 10, the 21H1.
Yesterday I have encrypted an external harddisk, the whole disk. Just after the encryption, I have mounted it without any problem and enjoyed to see that it works pretty well. To day I boot my PC, launch Veracrypt and want to mount the disk. Impossible, I get the following error :
Device is not ready Source MountVolume : 8382
The veracrypt version is the last one, the 1.24 update7, 64 bits.

I have installed veracrypt on a second PC, under the same OS and get the same issue :-(
Can some one explain me what I do wrong or how to mount the volume ?
    Thanks in advance !
    Eric, from France.

    Hi RealTehreal,
thanks for your answer but a letter is already assigned : G as shown below.

Removal and reassign of the letter does not change anything.

Then I'm out of ideas. Maybe a dev will find out what's the matter. Sorry m8.

    Hello Eric

Yesterday, i had the same problem with my VeraCrypt volume mounting, exactly the same message that you've got (Access is denied - Source MountVolume8382)

This is the first time I'm facing this problem, and I'm running Windows7 (x86)

Tried the mount several times, with no success, I even tried to mount another volume (on an external USB disk) and i got the same error.

I thought the error might be related to insufficient memory (and/or) higher CPU usage on my machine, since I was running (at the same time) an application which consumes a lot of CPU/Memory.

Even after closing that application, I was getting the same error message from VeraCrypt

Later when I rebooted my machine, then stared VeraCrypt, It successfully mounted my volumes!

I've been using TrueCrypt/VeraCrypt for years, this is the first time I had this problem, I hope it would never happen again.

    Had this exact problem today.

I've had it previously on various other systems over the years, but without any seeming causative effect. I've previously given up in horror/defeat/resignation.

This is how I fixed it - but I'm not sure which part was "The" fix....

    -- I decrypted my boot/system drive
    -- Reboot
    -- uninstalled VC
    -- Reboot
    -- Reinstalled VC
-- Tried to mount everything, failed

    THEN

-- Using Device Manager (via the Computer Manager console) I DISABLED the two non-mounting drives
    -- Reenabled drives
-- Started VC via the desktop shortcut as Administrator
-- Tried to mount and PRESTO! It worked
    -- Happy dance :)

I'm not claiming this is a procedure, or even which part worked, or which didn't (most likely 8 of the 10 things had nothing to do with it).... but this did work for me.

My guess? Disabling/Reenabling the drives and/or admin privileges.

Apologies I could not be more exact. I sincerely hope other find some use in my misadventure.

For me, as detailed in a different thread, it was sufficient to mount the drive a few hours later, in a different external dock, without disabling or rebooting anything. Note also that thread's suspicion of blocking due to antivirus software.
