    bug Permission Denied" error 287
( sorry if i posted it the wrong place, i could not find a bug forum )

    Linux mint 22.1
    Veracrypt 1.26.24 Friday May 30th, 2025

I have a home network with a NAS server where i keep my veracrypt encrypted containers.
On windows i can open the veracrpt folder on the nas without problems and its been working for many years now.
But when i do the same on linux mint 22.1 then i get the error
    Permission Denied" error 287
The error ONLY happen when i try to create or open an enctrypted veracrypt file that are stored on the NAS server.
If i try to open or create a container on Linux mint example on the desktop then veracrypt work perfect

I also tried to make different kind of containers with different file format ect.
But no matter what i do when i copy or create a new container on the NAS or remote harddrive then
it fail Permission Denied" error 287

Is it possible, that you actually have permission issues? How do you connect to the NAS in the first place? dav(s)+Linux always creates headaches...

    Hello.
I have found a work around. and now i can open veracrypt containers on linux mint.
( but yes i think it have something to do with permissions, but i dont know how to fix that )

    Instead i found another solution.

    In linux mint install SMB4K
    Run SMB4K

In SMB4k enter the IP or the path to your NAS folder where you have your vera crypt container.
The most easy way is to beforhand to right click the folder you want to access and get the location path and then copy it.

On the next page enter your NAS login information
the code you use in windows the first time you want to connect to the nas
( not the nas admin code )

you should now see the folder on your NAS that example have your veracrypt container in it.

Now right click the container and use veracrypt to open it, enter the veracrypt container code and next your linux mint code and now you should be able to see what is inside the encrypted container.

ps. if you are using a VPN like nordvpn remember to turn that off when using your VPN els it might block you from seeing it on the network.
