I am using VeraCrypt on Windows 10. The encrypted drive is an internal drive mounted in an external dock. I want diskmgmt.msc to display the drive label (e.g., "DATA_1") when the drive is connected.
It seems that Disk Management will do this for some drives but not others. Possibly the explanation is that I formatted those drives in diskmgmt before encrypting them in VeraCrypt. But that seems to work only on the same machine: when I connect those drives to a different machine, the label does not appear; Disk Management displays only "Healthy (Basic Data Partition)."
Trying to label VeraCrypt drives via Disk Management > Properties yields "The drive is not formatted. You must format it before you can label it." My search for guidance yields nothing.
