I'm on Linux (Ubuntu 18.04) and unable to mount a Veracrypt encrypted device which is readonly. Encrypted and trying to open with 1.22.
Opening on Windows works fine (With the question to remove the readonly attribute).

On Linux Veracrypt just displays the following message:

device mapper: reload ioctl on veracrypt1_0 failed:
    The filesystem is readonly
    Command failed

Anything on this? Tested on multiple devices with Ubuntu, the error persists.

What version of Windows are you using on your PC?

Try mounting volume in Windows removing the read-only attribute, then in the VeraCrypt GUI:

VeraCrypt GUI > right click on the mounted volume > select Repair Filesystem

Then dismount in Windows and mount again in Windows. Are you still being prompted in Windows to remove read-only attriubute?

If yes, Google search "windows read only won't go away".
If no, try mounting on Linux Ubuntu 18.04.

    I used Windows 10 RS4.
Yes, I already tried removing the attribute readonly via Veracrypt, command-line and other GUI tools but it seems it's readonly by hardware (there's no switch on the device).
I know it's a specific use-case but Veracrypt on Linux shouldn't error when mounting a readonly device but mount it as readonly like it does on Windows.

On Windows 10, did you attempt the filesystem repair after succesfully removing the read-only attribute in Windows?

Just tried again the readonly attribute doesn't get removed.
The attribute seems to be set by the hardware.
Opening the volume readonly via Veracrypt on Linux doesn't work which I'm after.

I was hoping the post from VeraCrypt user The Snackbar would solve your problem if you could get the read-only attribute removed in Windows.

Sorry, I have no other ideas for you to try.

Just wanted to say that Repairing the Filesystem did work for me! :)

Repairing the filesystem also worked for me!

        My case:
I had suddenly got permissions issue when mounting a hidden partition under Linux Mint 19.2.
The volume was basically behaving as if mounted as Read-Only, although volume's properties were indicating that it was not mounted as Read-Only.

I tried to mount it under Windows 10 and there it was getting mounted with proper Read-Write access. I then launched windows CHDSK tool right-clicking on the mounted volume in Veracrypt's list => Repair Filesystem.
At the end of the repair, it said there it had nothing to repair. However, I dismounted the volume from the Windows host then mounted it on the Linux host and it is now working fine on the latter as well.

Not sure what the underlying issue may have been (I did not mess with Veracrypt options, but did perform some OS & Veracrypt udpates and potentially experienced some OS crash while having the volume mounted - i don't remember)
