Veracrypt volumes always ejected under Linux

    Bile Demon - 2020-12-12

I have a serious problem with my Veracrypt installation under Ubuntu Mate at the moment. It worked quite ok for a while, but beginning this morning all Veracrypt volumes that are successfully mounted are ejected after exactly 60 seconds. I couldn't find anything on this problem, so as my last hope I wanted to create this forum topic.

No matter which of my 2 volumes I mount, the file explorer opens, I see my files, everything is fine. And after 60 seconds, the window disappears and Veracrypt doesn't show the volume anymore, as if I dismounted it accidentally.

Right before this problem occurred I noticed that all of the Veracrypt settings were messed up, it was set to Truecrypt compatibility mode for example, and hardware acceleration was disabled etc. I'm not sure if that has something to do with it, but I cleaned that up. I already removed and reinstalled Veracrypt completely,. but that didn't help.

I already found out that if I play a video file from one of the volumes, the volume is not ejected as long as the file plays. But as soon as I close the player, the volume disappears immediately.

    What can I do?

I had/have the same problem on my current UbuntuStudio 20.04 installation.

Please, have a look at the following topic, where this problem is discussed widely:
    https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/technical/thread/2fd808f2c2/

    I found/use a very similar WORKAROUND:
    https://sourceforge.net/p/veracrypt/discussion/technical/thread/2fd808f2c2/#9e51

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is still no solution for this problem available.

I didn't open a 'Trouble Ticket' as mentioned by 'RadMan'.
Now, I will do that as soon as I find some time ...

    @Bile Demon
For the 'Trouble Ticket' I will open:

Which UbuntuMate and which VC versions do you have currently installed on your computer?

    Hi geolan,

thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only person in the world with this kind of problem.

I'm using Ubuntu Mate 20.04 LTS and Veracrypt 1.24-Update7.

I used a stopwatch for the random dismounting and in my case I can reproduce the dismounting happening after exactly 60 seconds. It is never less and never more than that.

I'd also like to add that I observed the same behavior like you, where all the settings under preferences where selected all of a sudden. But this didn't occur right after a fresh install, but rather happened from one day to another. I only noticed this, because mounting suddenly wouldn't work anymore and I found out that the settings were all wrong.

    Hi Bile Demon,

Thank you very much for your reply!

Some more questions regarding the hardware which is used for your VC volumes and regarding the VC volumes itselves:

    1) HDD, SSD or USB flash drive?
    2) Hardware with your VC volumes attached internally (SATA III) or externally (USB 3.0, eSATA ...)?
    3) Size of your VC volumes?
    4) File system of your VC volumes?
    5) Hidden or not hidden VC volumes?

    Thanks!

No problem. I just hope this issue can be fixed somehow.

    1) Both drives in question are HDDs
    2) Both connected internally with SATA
    3) First drive is 14 TB and the other one is 6 TB in size (complete drive encryption)
    4) First drive is EXT4, the other one is NTFS (it came from a Windows system)
    5) Not hidden
