    Hello.

    I'd like to report my misadventures with the use of Veracrypt.

    I've got a new WD My PassPort 1TB drive.
    Let's call it: /dev/sdv
    Removed the partitioning it came with and created a new gpt table.
    Created a new partition in it and left it unformatted.
    Let's call it: /dev/sdv1

    As I'm on debian testing/unstable I've downloaded and installed this:
    veracrypt-1.24-Update7-Debian-10-amd64.deb via:
    dpkg -i veracrypt-1.24-Update7-Debian-10-amd64.deb

    Then I created a new VeraCrypt Volume by subsequently selecting:
    Create a volume withing a partition/drive ->
    Standard VeraCrypt volume ->
    /dev/sdv1 ->
    Encryption Algorithm: AES, Hash Algorithm: SHA-512
    INPUT_VERACRYPT_VOLUME_PASSWORD ->
    Filesystem: NTFS

    Then I mounted the volume with success via the VeraCrypt GUI and then
    unmounted it and did a complete system shutdown.

    After restarting the system and proceeded to mount the volume with
    success again and then began transfering files to it. Then I shutdown
    my system again.

    Today I tried mounting the volume again, through the same system with
    NO SUCCESS, with a dialog box displaying the following message:

    Operation failed due to one or more of the following:
    - Incorrect password.
    - Incorrect Volume PIM number.
    - Incorrect PRF (has).
    - Not a valid volume.

    Panic ensued. But for now I've my drive aside before I do
    any harm to any potential chance to recover those data.

    Please advice - thanks in advance,
    Sophoklis

    I don't know VC on Linux, just both separately. Do you mount VC volumes by hand only? Please check whether the drive is still accessible as /dev/sdv, that the partition table is still like you created it, and that no automatic mounting or configuration takes place. Check the system log.
