Were you able to get this figured out? I have what I believe is the same issues. Tried two different computers with the same outcome. I've installed from MSI, EXE, and tried portable, when I click the icon or EXE, the window for the application is just black.
Have you tried re-installing, and disabling the protection against screenshots and screen recording? (Performance and Driver Options.) If you do that, and you can then see the VC UI, you clearly have another issue to sort out - something is (possibly covertly) monitoring your screen activity. This might be some (benign but unhelpful) AV/security product, but could be malware.

That could be a factor since I'm remoted in to the computers in question via our RMM, but I tried 1.26.24 on two different computers, no dice. Then I installed 1.26.20 and that worked.
Don't get me wrong - has to be something system-related as a local install of 1.26.24 worked just fine.

After looking at the version history, the biggest related item between 24 and 20 seems to be just that. I'll try disabling the protection during install. Thanks for the lead!

If disabling the VeraCrypt screenshots and screen recording option prevents the black screen on the remote computers when you are using RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management software), then it has to be something with the RMM software not working correctly with Microsoft's Windows Display Affinity API which you can read the detailed notes in the comment section in the link I provided for this VeraCrypt option.

Confirmed this was the issue for us. Accessing the computer over RMM with default VeraCrypt install options does not work. Installing with disabling the protection against screenshots and screen recording works as needed. I have not tried RDP direct to the machine in either install scenario.

Hello
when opening the vera software - prior to any type of encryption - the window shows black.
this is after initial download only - no actions taken at all - since the window for vera does not show any info.
Asus laptop windows 11 - all drivers installed
